Since our Kickstarter days, we’ve been communicating with you through our newsletters. We do one once a week and I try to plan what to say a week or two before. It’s not always easy because we want to find ways to engage with you so that there’s a constant dialogue.
Joe and I were having drinks together one night, reminiscing about the early days and how active the comments board on Kickstarter was, and how much we had to engage with people from all over the world via our chat messenger - then it struck us.
While (we think) the newsletters have been as informative and eye catching as possible, they’re after all one way traffic. We don’t get to hear from you, how you’re doing with the product or what you’ll think of a new launch that we have in our minds.
It’s one thing to ask you what you want to see next, but a totally different thing to engage in constant dialogue, especially when you know it’s Joe or I speaking to you.
Don’t get me wrong - our newsletters are still a good way of sending out information when it comes to launches, campaigns, gift guides or even just basic announcements or accolades we want to celebrate with you. But building a Facebook group allows us to be closer to you on an everyday basis. It allows us to be more effective in creating products you want and need as we can share prototypes and you can comment on them so that we can reply almost instantly.
In addition to that, Faire Leather Co. would not be here without all of your support and so we want to give all our customers slight preferential treatment to thank you - whether that’s via special discounts, exclusive access to our new launches, private sales or sneak previews to prototypes, we want to make you the priority.
But further to that, its about building a community. Faire is created to represent a lifestyle that's about achieving as much as you can with what is necessary. Whether it's your tools or equipment, gadgets or stationery, we wanna make sure you have everything you need, where you need them and when you need them.
This is why we’ve created this closed Facebook group - we’re more than just a briefcase, backpack or wallet. Faire is a lifestyle that we want you to embrace and so I look forward to seeing you over at #LifeisFaire.
I always say that Faire Leather Co’s offering is more than just product. We want to present it as a lifestyle of convenience and simple minimalistic forms. It dawned on me one day that anyone that had bought our products must have been looking for ways to pair them; what watch to wear, how it would go with the suits and shoes - you get the drill.
I’ve always found shopping for these items to be challenging and quite frankly, a bit of a chore. It wasn’t so much that I didn’t enjoy shopping, it was more that it was so hard to sieve through what’s out in a mall because there’s just so much to choose from asides from the stuff for the ladies. That’s when I came up with Faire Collective.
Faire Collective is what I call the first of its kind – an experiential event that seeks to display the key elements of an urban gentleman’s attire and lifestyle. With this carefully curated selection, Faire Collective 2019 showcased two concepts: Retail and Bespoke.
The idea wasn’t just to bring together a host of complementary brands to our products here at Faire, it was also to curate local brands that made sense - all these brands were probably or could probably sell to the same people as we were selling to.
For that reason, we didn’t run with 20 brands in a location - instead, we went with a very specific selection of just 8 brands:

We then paired that with subtle associations to the modern gentleman: whisky, beer and hearty food.
To top it off, the brands are local, further showcasing what we have to offer as a nation. For those of you that missed out on the event, I hope the video gives you guys a better idea of what it’s like and a greater promise of what’s to come when we do it again. In summary, the idea of Faire Collective is to sell complementary products, as a collective, to make things easier for the modern male, to recognise local talent and most of all, to offer an event that’s curated with a specific selection.

Product Focus: The Bond Travel Briefcase vs The Bond Slim Briefcase
When we were nearing our launch for The Bond Slim Briefcase, I had been carrying the Bond Travel Briefcase for almost a year. So when the time came for me to try out the Bond Slim Briefcase sample before we launched, I was excited but terrified at the same time.
