Our Story
About Faire Collective
We are a direct-to-consumer label backed by over 30 years of experience in the industry. Founded in Singapore by Joseph Lor and Ryan Choy, Faire Collective is stylish functionality designed for everyone - taking you through Monday to Sunday, 365 days a year.
Product Philosophy
Our product philosophy rides on two factors.
Polished Exteriors
Along with our use of different materials, our products are clean and polished - differing from the rugged approach that our competitors take.
Effortless Organisation
We’ve considered all your everyday needs. Whether it’s compartments and pockets or smart functions, everything is well-kept, and easy to access.
History of Quality
An attribute that goes beyond pricing is quality. Joseph’s family has been making leather products for over 30 years. They have worked with countless types of materials and hardware, as well as the processes that go into making different kinds of bags. With Faire, we will have the same quality and knowhow, just updated for a new generation.
Vertically Integrated
Faire Collective is fully, vertically integrated. We run and own the factory, the same factory that’s produced for several luxury brands. This means we never have to pay a manufacturer’s fee or a sample production cost. We also save on materials because of the relationships we have built with suppliers over the years, and the expertise of our craftsmen in cutting leather efficiently - cost savings are made throughout the entire production process, which we then pass on to you.
Our Story
So it started out from a casual conversation we had over a couple of drinks. I was your standard working professional that works on the move. I carry my kindle, my laptop, a notebook and other daily essentials in my work bag. But I didn’t feel like there was anything out there that was solving a truly simple and fundamental problem - while the outside of my bag looked polished, inside it’s a mess and I can never find my stuff.
So I first asked Joe, “How difficult is it to make a bag that could neatly fit all my essentials?”
It wasn’t as easy as just building compartments. We had to re-imagine the structure of the conventional briefcase and make something that no one else had made before. We had to think specifically about the everyday needs of modern professionals and design the product with a focus on functionality not just with the compartments, but also the details that would make the product.
We achieved this by bringing each prototype to focus groups before incorporating feedback with each iteration – over and over again until we got it right. This isn’t something many makers have the luxury of doing, but we could because Joe’s family owns the factory.
Countless months and rounds of sample making later, we made it — we'd created Faire as a brand and company, along with products that were seemingly impossible to make. We went live on Kickstarter in November 2017, and ended the campaign as the most funded campaign in Singapore out of over 700 projects. We then hit our 2 year target of $1,000,000 in sales in under 10 months and the rest as they say, is history.
We’ll make sure to continue improving and being your 365, making products that take you through Monday to Sunday,
- Ryan Choy
